Postecoglou Confident Spurs Players Are Committed Despite Poor Form

Tottenham manager Ange Postecoglou has expressed his belief that his players are giving everything they can to reverse their dismal run of form, despite the team extending their winless streak to seven Premier League matches with a 2-1 home loss to Leicester City on Sunday.

A Tough Loss Against Leicester

Spurs took an early lead through Richarlison’s header, but a disastrous start to the second half saw Jamie Vardy and Bilal El Khannouss score within five minutes, handing Leicester the win. This marked the first time since November 1997 that Tottenham conceded two goals so quickly after halftime in any game.

Tottenham’s current seven-match winless run in the league, which includes six losses and a single draw against Wolves, is their longest since 2008. Injuries to key players like Guglielmo Vicario, Destiny Udogie, Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Brennan Johnson, James Maddison, Timo Werner, and Dominic Solanke have left the squad severely depleted.

Postecoglou: “The Effort Is There”

Despite the poor results, Postecoglou refrained from criticizing his players, emphasizing their effort and commitment.

“It hurts a lot. The players gave everything again,” he told Premier League Productions. “In terms of effort, I can’t ask any more of this group. Things just didn’t go our way.”

The manager noted that while the team created opportunities, they lacked the composure to capitalize.

“The players are trying their hardest, and that’s all anyone can ask for. Sometimes, when you’re in this situation, that effort doesn’t give you clarity in decision-making,” he added.

Injuries and Upcoming Returns

Postecoglou highlighted the impact of missing key players and expressed optimism about their return.

“We’ll get some players back. In the next couple of weeks, there are some really important players coming back who I know will help this group,” he said.

The manager is confident that once the squad regains its strength, Spurs will turn their form around.

“We’ve been going like this for two months. They put in an enormous performance on Thursday to ensure we’re OK in Europe, and they had to back it up today. But there were probably at least two or three players who weren’t 100%.”

Fan Frustration and Postecoglou’s Future

Sunday’s loss saw chairman Daniel Levy targeted by dissenting chants, while Postecoglou faced jeers from the home crowd for substituting Richarlison in the 54th minute.

Acknowledging the pressure, Postecoglou admitted his job depends on results:

“I’m a football manager, and I get judged on results. That is the way of the world.”

What’s Next for Tottenham?

Spurs remain 15th in the Premier League table, eight points clear of the relegation zone and 16 points behind the top seven. They face Brentford next in the league before traveling to Liverpool for the second leg of their EFL Cup semi-final, where they hold a 1-0 advantage.

Postecoglou remains hopeful that Spurs will soon find their way back to winning form, bolstered by the return of key players and the continued commitment of the squad.
